Derek Morrison was Associate Head of e-Learning at the UK Higher Education Academy until he retired. Prior to that he was Director of the Centre for New Technologies in Learning at the University of Bath also in the UK. He was one of a small band of blog pioneers in the UK Higher Education system with the introduction of his Auricle site (www.auricle.org) – now archived. Derek is also a keen distance cyclist and publishes material related to this on his VeloScience site (www.veloscience.org) where some of the postings are put to verse. His poetic influences are the two contrasting Scottish bards Robert Burns and William McGonagall – the latter for his use of irony (usually unrecognised by his many many literary critics).
